If you are like us, you wake up every morning looking forward to receiving blame and criticism. Just kidding. For most of us, the dread of receiving difficult feedback messages can be paralyzing, locking us into an internal demand for unachievable perfection. This week, we will explore becoming more liberated from the terror of feedback, and see that feedback is not only necessary but can be deeply transformative and connective.
Join us, Jim and Jori, and the community to find more ways to support yourself and others’ wellbeing, and get needs met with less costly ramifications. We are continuing our exploration of the Pathways to Liberation Matrix with Openness to Feedback. This skill entails receiving others’ perspectives about our actions with equanimity and centeredness.
- UNSKILLED: Feedback means something is wrong or right with self or other. Feedback is interpreted as criticism or praise.
- AWAKENING: Has desire to transform one’s own reactivity around receiving feedback.
- CAPABLE: Understands that feedback from another is the other’s perspective and connects it to the other’s need; connects one’s own reaction to feedback to one’s own needs.
- INTEGRATED: Receives feedback as information to be considered, with clarity of choice. Aware that others are speaking from their own perspective.
We will offer concrete skills and steps for practicing compassion and leadership in your life, focusing on learning and practice. You will have the option to meet with others in small groups that can support compassion and mutual learning, as we continue to explore ways to support integrating skills for making life more wonderful. We will open the meeting 15 minutes early at 6:15 pm US-PT for connection together, and aim to start promptly at 6:30 US-PT to maximize time for learning and practice. You are also welcome to stay afterward for continued community time. Feel free to forward this to friends.
